Outstanding Tenant / Resident Group or panel – Taff Tenants Association
In the face of intensive discussion we have decided to recognise a group of tenants who have shown outstanding personal and professional resilience in working to achieve benefits for a broader community of tenants, this group is a community of interest not a traditional TRA.

This project focused on engaging young people to tell their story in an action centred way. The personal and professional journeys of these individuals is testimony to what can be achieved when you have good support and committed volunteers. It has involved working for the past 18 months with Shelter Cymru’s Education Service which has supported this group of young housing researchers aged just 16-25 on a Joseph Rowntree Foundation project.

The group have used the findings to produce a Welsh Charter and have contributed to an animated film, which features the voices of young people from similar projects across the UK. Many of you would have seen their workshop at today’s event and feel inspired to sign up for their charter to ensure the project brings about real improvements to young people’s housing options.

Outstanding Tenant / Resident’s Federation – Cardiff Tenants and Residents Group
This group is almost as old as the WTF. Their numbers have swelled in recent years as well as their influence, if at all it ever diminished. Their work has been outstanding developing their own base in Gabalfa with extensive investment from the council and other bodies which is testimony to their professionalism and confidence placed in them by the stakeholders.

In addition to regular open engagement with tenants and residents every year they organise an annual conference which has improved year on year, inviting interesting and varied range of speakers even from the Welsh Government.

Their professionalism has developed into a finely tuned operation with high levels of engagement and influence with a huge number of external professional bodies.

Our congratulations to Pam, Jim, Michael, Margret and the other committee and members.

Outstanding individual Member / Individual – Lyn Bond, Board Member of Newydd HA and TAP Member
Lyn is often perceived as outspoken – the panel would rather see this as exuding confidence, she has been involved for more years than we could remember in both the work of her housing association and at a community regional and national levels.

She has been involved in self assessment with her landlord and involved in her local Community Panel and community first partnership, Tenant Powered Performance project and Audit Committee of her landlord Newydd Housing Association. Lyn Bond, Glyntaff Tenants and residents Association.

Lyn lives on the Glyntaff estate in Rhydfelin, Glyntaff. Lyn is a board member of Newydd Housing Association. On the Tenants Advisory Panel (TAP) participating in the work of the regulator and is currently undertaking formal qualifications in Housing via the CIH and UWIC.

Outstanding Tenant Participation Officer – Heather Powey, Vale of Glamorgan Council
TP was perceived to be at a low ebb between tenants and the council until this lady stepped up to the plate. Her primary task was therefore to build relations between the council and tenants during a difficult period going through options appraisal and later developing the relationship moving forward.

She has helped tenants develop their IT skills, developed constitutional framework between the council and tenants. Helped tenants to have input on the council scrutiny panel while. Her work has enabled a genuine and productive relationship between tenants and their landlord enabling tenants to influence day-to-day working practices, policies and procedures. The tenants now have more than 11 tenant groups across the council, she has sought and helped tenants to develop 20 tenant engagement associates who in turn are recruiting and training other tenants. Tenants helped develop the offer for transfer and are re-writing a tenants handbook and a welcome to your sheltered housing booklet. Participation panels now include sheltered housing, leaseholders and general needs panel. Good forms of communication and information are vital and this person has also helped tenants to develop newsletters and is always keen to assist tenants to be more empowered to help shape future services.
